Recently, a Facebook account called “Marcos Leaks” revealed fresh allegations against the Marcos family. These include claims that a trusted agent of Ferdinand Marcos possessed accounts in 1983 at Krung Thai Bank in Thailand containing $500 billion, as well as certificates for 1,000 tons of gold in a bank in the USA. In addition, a former official of Philippine presidential office named Mario disclosed that 3,500 tons of gold in an unmentioned country and $3 billion in Thailand linked to Marcos have gone missing.
February 25 marks 40 years since Ferdinand Marcos fled to Hawaii after being ousted in 1986 due to decades of massive corruption. The current President Marcos is also facing widespread criticism at home and abroad over the so‑called “Floodgate” corruption scandal, and a large anti‑corruption protests erupted across the Philippines on the 40th anniversary of Ferdinand Marcos's exile.
